Purpose Carries out various assigned aspects of the water quality monitoring program and associated compliance activities.
Performs other duties as required.
Accountabilities Organizes sample bottles and coordinates sampling events.
Sample types include organics, inorganics, radiologicals, bacteriologicals, and others.
Serve as liaison with contracted laboratories.
Create and maintain monitoring schedules and monitoring logs as necessary.
Investigate complaints and answer inquiries from customers concerning water quality.
Keep neat hand-written records, maintain computer data bases, and communicate both verbally and in writing with government and public representatives regarding county, state, and federal compliance requirements.
Have working knowledge of data storage and reporting capabilities of the company's water quality data management platform (currently WaterTrax.
) Prepare, review, and submit required reports to regulatory agencies.
Inspect company facilities such as wells, treatment facilities, reservoirs, sampling stations, pumps, etc.
, to ascertain their compliance with sanitary standards.
Recognize serious non-compliance issues related to WQ in the distribution system, and notify supervisor of issue; when implemented, support service shut-down as directed.
Regularly report to and communicate with supervisor regarding compliance activities and emerging or ongoing water quality concerns.
Education and Experience High school diploma, plus three years of experience in the water production or engineering field or suitable equivalent Must have general knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations dealing with water quality Must possess a SWRCB Water Distribution Operator Grade 2 or SWRCB Water Treatment Operator Grade 2 Must possess a valid California Class C driver's license Must have the ability to meet tactfully with the general public in matters of water quality.
Must have some knowledge of water distribution systems.
Must communicate with co-workers, and display a positive attitude.
Must have the ability to direct, train and oversee others in performing related tasks, be willing to attend meetings, conferences, and pursue continuing education to stay current with changing laws and regulations related to water quality.
Sight sufficient to possess a California Class C driver's license, and to read necessary data pertaining to position.
Hearing sufficient to receive telephone communications with supervisor and public.
Must have the dexterity to keep neat handwritten records and operate a computer.
The activities of this position may include manual pushing, pulling, lifting and occasional carrying of heavy objects.
Personnel are provided with, and expected to employ the use of, lifting equipment, techniques, methods and procedures to assist with safe handling of such items.
